Summary

Tide gauge at Port Pirie reveals that the sea level is rising but much slower than estimated. The Port Pirie gauge has been operational since 1883. High and low tides have been recorded since then. Digital records for Port Pirie began in 1917 with a Negretti and Zambra chart recorder. The site is well protected from wave action however southerly winds drive water to the shallow northern tip of Spencer Gulf
