Summary

The shop shown was owned by John William Davis, who died in 1867. The business was carried on after his death, passing to his son John William Davis. The building was designed by Edmund Wright at the instigation of the first J.W. Davis. This same John Davis pioneered the firing of the time gun in Adelaide and later lowered a time ball from the balcony of this building. [Information supplied by Roger Creaser.] Two shops are located in this building. At number 32, stands John Davies Jewellers, and at number 34 stands J Woodmans Piano and Organ Warehouse
