Summary

[General description] The Blumberg (now Birdwood) Institute, built around 1884. In 1917 the Adelaide Hills town Blumberg, which had been settled by people of Prussian descent was re-named Birdwood to anti-German sentiment in the first World War. This new name was in honour of Sir William Birdwood, the Australian Imperial Force General who led the ANZACs at Gallipoli.
