Summary

The Empire Theatre, Grote Street, south side, 1952. Right side is 8.5 yards east of Moonta Street, frontage is 17 yards. For a view of this building after conversion to portion of the Peoplestores Ltd. building see B 12989. The alterations were made before 1954 (probably in 1953) The theatre was used between 1909 and 1952 and was designed to show moving pictures as well as theatrical performances.The theatre remained in operation until 1952. It was designed by architect A Barnham Black. On the opening night on April 10, 1909, Vaudeville acts along with moving pictures were featured
