Summary

Bentham Street, Adelaide, showing the premises formerly used by the Christian Brothers as the Bentham Street Church up until about 1908. The original chapel was built circa 1848 for a Nonconformist congregation, a breakaway group from the Baptist Church, led by Pastor Thomas Playford, an ancestor of the South Australian premier of the same name. The chapel was known as 'Playford's Chapel' at this time. The front of this building is a later date, before 1880. Right side is 54 yards north of Franklin Street, frontage: 14 yards. The front was remodelled in 1922-23. For photo after completion of alterations, see B 1321.
