Historical information

William Alexander Erskine West-Erskine was the first born son of Rev. William James West and Elmina Erskine. The West family were a prominent family in Dublin, Ireland, renowned for their silver and goldsmith business. His grandfather was Matthew West, Alderman City of Dublin & High Sheriff of Dublin 1810-11, Lord Major elect for 1821. William's first cousins who also emigrated to Australia were Sir Frederick Matthew Darley, Chief Justice of NSW, Cecil West Darley, Chief Engineer for NSW Public Works and Dr Arthur Annesley West, one of the founding doctors of the Sydney Children's Hospital. One of his nephews was Lt. Col. Richard Annesley West who was awarded the VC in WW I. [From additional information provided].
