Summary

Church at Old Coonattoo Station. Philip Butler took up some pastoral leases in 1840 which became known as Coonatto Station. The station had a reputation for good hospitality and visiting missionary priests and missionaries were always welcome. This small church was built on the property. This singular building had a chimney on one side and a large cellar beneath. The first bishop of Adelaide, Augustus Short, held services in the church. The station name Coonatto comes from the Aboriginal word for false sandalwood tree which was abundant in the area
