Summary

Old Gum Tree on Everard Estate, Ashford. Ashford House was first built in 1838 in the Adelaide suburb of Ashford by Dr Charles Everard and is among the oldest historic buildings in South Australia. At the rear of the house is the remains of the Old Gum Tree, which is of historic significance, as it was in place when Dr Everard arrived in 1836. The photograph taken before 1920 shows the wide girth of the gum tree with holes in the lower trunk that people could walk through. See also B 9682
