Summary

J. Pitt, Adelaide Rifles 1879-1881. A volunteer force of Infantry. Uniform: Scarlet coat, Black chaco/Shako?, black trousers, black belt. A member of the Adelaide Rifles would have carried a Martini-Henry with a bayonet. A shako is a tall cylindrical military cap, usually with a visor and sometimes tapered at the top. It is usually adorned with some kind of ornamental badge and often has a feather. James Pitt is believed to have been a jeweller and arms collector.
