Summary

William Henry Shephard [1812-1848] about the time of his marriage [duplicate copy at PRG 1631/45/67a]. He was an early colonist of South Australia who died of tuberculosis at age of 36. His Adelaide Tavern had a theatre upstairs which was capable of holding 400 people. The reception for Colonel Light was held there on 6 June, 1838 with 250 invited guests.

General notes

William Henry Shephard arrived in Adelaide in 1836 on the 'Tam O' Shanter'. He was married at Trinity Church to Ann Garrett on the same day (4 June 1838) as the marriage of his friend Thomas Maslin to his sister Sarah, who arrived with Ann on the 'Trusty' in 1838. William built and ran the Adelaide Tavern, holding the first licence from May - July 1838, when he sold it.
