Summary

Sir Keith Smith and Sergeant Shiers with the Vickers Biplane on the day of their arrival (23rd March, 1920) at Northfield after the flight from London. The next day the plane was wheeled out of the hanger in preparation for the last stage of its long flight. On board were the two Smith brothers - Sir Ross and Sir Keith, Captain Frank Hurley and mechanics Bennett and Shiers. The Vickers-Vimy machine was escorted for the first stage of the journey by three aeroplanes from the Central Flying School. Sergeant Shier has his back to the camera.
