Pictorial Advertising Representatite, Miss Lisa Keavy. This money was raised by the paper's annual pictorial 'Red Cross Calling' blood bag feature.

Figurehead of the ship Glenpark which stood for many years in front of the old Mortlock Homestead was restored in Whyalla. The ship Glenpark was built at Glasgow in 1897 and wrecked near Wedge Island in February 1901.

Electric trucks were used to bring the ore down to the crushers halfway down the face of the hill. From here conveyer belts take the ore to the railway below where it is loaded mechanically and carried on to Whyalla for shipment to Newcastle.

Point Lowly Lighthouse

Point Lowly Lighthouse

Point Lowly Lighthouse, completed in 1883, automated in 1973, and turned off in 1993. It stands on a point jutting into the northern end of the Spencer Gulf, near Whyalla. The view shows three of the Searcy brothers, Roffe, Arthur and Alfred, seated in a small boat. In the background the Point, with the recently raised [1909] lighthouse, and the two lighthouse cottages can be seen.

Lighthouse Cottages

Lighthouse cottages at Point Lowly. Point Lowly is situated north east of Whyalla in the Upper Spencer Gulf. It was named by Matthew Flinders during his explorations in 1802. It was also named Cap Lafontaine by Nicholas Baudin during his explorations of the same time. Two young boys and a little girl are watching two men making adjustments to a flag pole near the cottages.

Service station at Saddleworth owned/operated by J. Huppatz. The second car from the right with the registration 0-853 is the Huppatz's trade number. The white car in the middle was registered to Mr. A.S. Leach and has a rear mounted petrol tank. The car on the left with the registration 0-2497 is being restored by Bob Trevan. It was purchased by the Chantrell family from Whyalla in 1980. Information provided by a researcher was taken from 'Duncan & Fraser Ltd. Legacies left untold' by David Chantrell.
