River steamers "Success", "Waikerie" and "Murrabit" at Morgan. "Success" operated from 1877-1957. She made a record run from Wilcannia to Wentworth in 1906 in a record 40 hours. "Waikerie" operated from 1911 until destroyed by fire in 1929. "Murrabit" operated from 1914 and was a replacement for "Arbuthnot" which was destroyed by fire

Street in Walkerie showing H&J Mortimer's pair of shops containing the butchers and bakers. The central grassy strip dividing the road contains palm trees. The Ngawait tribe were the original inhabitants of this area, with settlers arriving in 1894. Those who stayed formed the core of the township of Waikerie which became the citrus centre of Australia.
