According to a researcher, this is a photograph of children walking along Commercial Road at Strathalbyn. The fence on the left is the border of the steep bank down to the Dawson Creek, which confluence is about 20 metres from the last picket on that fence and the children. The Dawson Creek is crossed by the Mill Bridge. The direction the marchers are heading is towards Albyn Terrace and they would have marched from their school, which was on Colman Terrace, first road right, behind them.
