Edward Peter Kuhl's Blacksmith shop, Commercial Street West, Mount Gambier. Edward Kuhl operated his blacksmith business in Mount Gambier between 1900 and 1942. The poster on the side of the shop advertises the movie 'The Great Moment' released 1921.

[General description] Penola Mechanics Institute and Public Library, built in 1869. It is still in use today (2018) as a visitor centre. It is a single storey stone building with arched doors and windows across its facade. A poster out front advertises a concert by Lena Conly. The Lutheran Church is on the right.

Rundle Street, Adelaide, north side, corner of Pulteney Street, showing the premises of R. Cottrell & Son's. The notice of removal on Cottrell's side wall fixes the date as the early 1870s. Cottrell purchased the lease of the Imperial Hotel corner in King William Street in September 1870 (Register, September 23rd, 1870, 4c). The 1873 directory shows him as still in Rundle Street, but Mr. Sanders says that Cottrell moved to King William Street soon after the purchase of the lease. The poster on the right with its date, 'Monday, December 30th', suggests late 1872 or early 1873, which would tally with the directories. [General description] Shops along Rundle Street, east of Pulteney Street. The shops include the Victoria Dye Works and Cleaners sharing with G.D. Roberts Hairdressers. A poster outside the hairdressers advertises a theatre production of "The Merry Widow." Next door at number 174 stands E. Warhurst's Musical Instruments. Mrs. A. Popp, later A. Renof, Fruiterer has a large display of fruit in her York Fruit Palace. A.E. Jory Watchmakers is situated at number 178 Rundle Street. [On back of photograph] Acre 38. Rundle Street, north side. 1909-10. Probably 1909. See B 7787/16. Left side of Victoria Dye Works is 35 yards east of Pulteney street. The dyeworks and No. 174 were demolished between 1928 and 1932 and were replaced by the eastern portion of Craven's Building (next door to the Savings Bank) Compare with B 6200.

Rundle Street corner of Pulteney Street. The shop was built on the south east corner of Acre 38. J Heath Everett was a grocer and tea dealer and can be seen standing in the doorway of his store surrounded by sacks of goods. A poster on the window states "It's a grocery warehouse'. This is the shop at the extreme right of the view shown in B 2498.

The building is festooned with flags and posters for the Magic Cave appear in the windows. The street is busy with shoppers and carriages.

Hindley Street, north side, 27 November 1902. J Miller Anderson and Company has two shop front windows in the building which also houses dentist's rooms. The building is being altered and a sign warns the public to be careful. A statue of a sheep is hanging from a balcony over the entrance to Miller Anderson and Company. Posters on the front of the building are advertising The Theatre Royal production of 'Widow Japan' starring Maggie Moore. Electrical lighting and power is being installed by Todd and Samuel from the Electrical Department Adelaide.

King William Street, Adelaide, west side, on April 11th, 1893, showing the premises of Harrold Brothers, Exporters and General Merchants. Advertising posters are displayed in front of the building. The frontage of the building is 15 yards and its left side is 26 yards north of Currie Street.

King William Street, Adelaide, east side. The right side of the Clarence Hotel is 46 yards north of Pirie Street and its frontage is 15 yards. The Tivoli Theatre is advertised with decorative lights. Several men are posing in front of the building. The man in the light-coloured suit and hat, is the American Charles J Johnson, known as "The Black Diamond, champion Cakewalk Dancer". He is standing to one side of a poster advertising his appearance. A woman and two children are on the left. Signs for Walkerville Ales are on the hotel windows. For a view of the hotel taken in 1925, see B 2450. The Clarence Hotel started out as the Alma Shades in 1857, then in 1858, was known as the Adelaide Shades. It was re-named as the Clarence Hotel from 1863-1917 and then became the Majestic. It traded under that name until 1981 when it was demolished.

[General description] Premises on the southern side of Waymouth Street. Many cars are parked along this part of Waymouth Street. Business' on the southern side include Howard Smith Limited, Ernest Graham at number nineteen, National Insurance Company, Green and Company, Adelaide Chamber of Commerce, Horticultural Society, and the South Australian Gas Company. In 1927 the rooms above the archway on the right were removed. (marked in the photo. by the "Sale by Auction" poster) See B 4817. Divisions between Howard Smith's and Montefiore Chambers are 32 and a half yards east of Marlborough Place. Far side of balcony to Montefiore Chambers is 11 yards east of Marlborough Place.

[General description] The Central Picture Theatre has been recently upgraded to give it a distinctly Art Deco look. There are movie posters displayed at street level and a beauty salon and chocolate shop on either side of the theatre doors. The hoarding in front of the Cooperative Woodyard features posters advertising a film showing at the Wondergraph, (Milton Sills and Doris Kenyon in Burning Daylight), an advertisement for Vat 69 Whisky and various others. The Enterprise Motor Hire Company is next door, then Carberry's Tyres. Bickford & Sons and J. Miller Anderson & Co. In right foreground an elaborate gas lamp with a stag design on the glass sides is attached to the balcony of the building opposite the theatre.
