Served in England and France and Belgium. Received the Meritorious Service Medal (25 years service). Returned to Australia 6 August 1919 per 'Orita'. He had also served in the Boer War 1899-1900, with operations in Natal and Transvaal, actions at Talana Hill, Defence of Ladysmith, Laings Nek. Awarded Queen's Medal with four Clasps. Died January 1949, aged 71 years. Buried Centennial Park Cemetery Acacia A A N 851.
