Full-length studio portrait of a man in army uniform. One group of enthusiasts has identified the uniform details as: 'an officer wearing a frogged tunic, the collar bearing the rank insignia of a Lieutenant Colonel (being a crown with lace above and below it), and a fur busby. He is wearing a white leather shoulder belt and sword belt with hangars, his sword being a pattern 1822 Light Cavalry officer's. His black leather sabretache bears the badge of the South Australian Militia Cavalry (see 'Military Badges of the Australian Colonies 1800-1903' by R. Grebert, 2000, page 230). Other enthusiasts disagree with this interpretation and have suggested that 'the officer was in South Australia on a visit (rifle competition?) as ... he is not wearing a South Australian Volunteer uniform'.
