E.C. Longson, Sharebroker, was remembered fondly at the Adelaide Stock Exchange. He gave away a fortune. He was born in Lancashire in 1831 and was a solicitor but left the law to join a mercantile firm. He arrived in Melbourne in 1852 and honeymooned in Adelaide. He was a buyer and salesman to Messrs. William Younghusband in Gilbert Place. He became a sheep farming agent, and Staff Clerk to the SA Volunteer Military Force. He was known as 'the Prince of Brokers' and was a brilliant electioneering agent for candidates wishing to enter parliament. He helped Sir Thomas Elder, Sir Richard Baker, Sir Edwin T Smith, Hons. Henry Scott, John Crozier and AB Murray. "If you want to get into Parliament you only have to employ Mr Longson" quoted Sir Richard Baker.
