Eyre Peninsula fishing, farming and other activities : collection of film negatives

Records comprise small rolls of Panchromatic film negatives, showing scenes of fishing, boating, farming, sports and other local industries and activities in the Port Lincoln, Tumby Bay, Coffin Bay areas of Eyre Peninsula. Included are three photographs of Ray Gordon with friends and the Landrover in which he and Wilf Roediger made their overland trip (1960) to the Northern Territory. Titles have been taken from handwriting on the envelopes originally containing the rolls of film. To see details of the individual photographs, search on Archival number PRG 1605/7.

View of a group of passengers on the deck of M.V. 'Moonta' during one of its' gulf trips. 'The Gulf trip - 6 pounds for 6 days' saw the ship visit Port Lincoln, Port Pirie, Port Augusta and Port Hughes as well as Port Germein, Wallaroo and possibly Whyalla. The photographer was one of the passengers on the trip.

Green Patch Station

Green Patch Station

Homestead, Green Patch Station. The old home was the property of the Sinclair family since it was built by Mr James Sinclair in 1853 who arrived from the Isle of Aran in Scotland on board the "Indus" in 1839. He transferred his wife, three children and 1,880 sheep overland from Nairne to Port Lincoln. He lost half of the sheep to coast disease. He first settled near Coffin Bay but later moved to Uley. Green Patch homestead had a slate roof that was later replaced with galvanised iron. Post from the wrap around verandah can be seen in the photograph which shows the two storey home positioned on a slight rise in a scrubby landscape.
