Port Adelaide
A watercolour sketch by Mary Laurie, wife of Buxton Laurie who lived for two years at Port Adelaide before becoming a Stipendiary Magistrate in the Port Elliot and Southern district. The inscription under the painting reads 'Port Adelaide - Marine Parade. West end. Wreck of the Pan-(?)'. The back of the painting is inscribed 'To dear Papa, this sketch by Mary Laurie looking west from her residence, Port Adelaide'. Part of the 'British Hotel' can be seen on the left; the wreck referred to can be seen in the middle distance. Buxton Forbes Laurie was one of the earliest vignerons south of Adelaide, planting his vines in 1853. Much of his wine was sent to England. His widow Mary continued the business and is believed to be the first female vigneron. Buxton Laurie originally was a chemist who had experience with explosives. Stone from his blastings provided ballast for the Port Elliot Jetty. Mary Laurie (nee Small) had 8 children and lived at Southcote at Port Elliot

Gypsum was brought by coastal trader ship from Stenhouse Bay to the canal wharf and transferred into the mill over the gantry. Australian Gypsum produced Victor Plaster products there and Victorboard at Gillman. Taken over by Boral in late 70's.

A collection of photographs relating to the south-west suburbs of Brighton, Glenelg, Seacliff, Noarlunga and nearby suburbs in South Australia. The group includes a series of photos showing the damage to the Brighton jetty after major storms in 1994 and 1995, and its subsequent re-building. According to brief paperwork attached to the photos (now removed), many of the photographs were published in the Guardian Messenger. Where more than one date has been supplied, one of the dates may refer to the date of publication. See 'contents' for details of individual images.

Plan of the new port at Port Adelaide as designed by His Excellency Col. G. Gawler, K.H., divided into sections of 80 and 134 acres. Area of plan extends from Torrens Island to part of Albert Town and shows soundings in feet along reaches of the Port River. Sections numbers of land affected by the new development shown, with route of proposed road to the Northern Mines. Outside map area is an explanation of details shown in the plan, and names of proprietors of land sections in new development (S.A. Company, J.A. Smith, J. Morphett & O. Gilles, John Ellis, T.B.
