Daisy Bates at a railway station

Daisy Bates standing on the platform of a railway station in 1934. The caption provided had the railway station as Ooldea, on the occasion of the visit of Prince Henry, Duke of Gloucester. According to a researcher, however, 'Ooldea station building was the standard Commonwealth Railways' one-roomed building without a raised platform. This scene is possibly a railway station in South Australia, but not Ooldea.' The 'Advertiser', 11 October 1934, however, reports that 'There was a longer halt at Ooldea, where the Duke spent half an hour riding, and met Mrs Daisy Bates O.B.E. whose work among the natives has made her famous.'
