[General description] This is a photographic copy of a lithograph of Port Adelaide in 1844, based on a sketch by Alexander Murray. Lithographed by A. Vaughan of the Surveyor's General Office, Adelaide. It depicts shipping and buildings of early Port Adelaide with a rowboat moored in the foreground amongst a few mangroves. [On back of photograph] 'Port Adelaide in 1844 / Reproduced from a sketch by Alexander Murray' [See also PRG 280/1/38/76].

[General description] An Aboriginal bark canoe in process of construction [On back of photograph] 'Aboriginal Canoe Building on Murray River / The sheet of bark, after being propped up all round the edge, is then weighted in the middle with stones and logs of wood, then a fire is made inside and under to heat the sap and make it soft and pliable. It is then left to dry in the shape required'

For an earlier photo of this residence see B 2495. Holy Trinity Church stands on the eastern side of the boarding house. Mrs Murray's Mannum house is 'late of Hergott' is a two storey house which has deep verandahs upstairs and downstairs. Martin's Coolgardie House and Residence can be hired by the month, week or day.
