Alexander Borthwick Murray

[General description] Head and shoulders portrait in three quarter view of Alexander Borthwick Murray. He emigrated from Scotland, arriving at Holdfast Bay in the 'Lady Lillford' in 1839. Being an experienced sheepman he eventually became a prominent pastoralist, mainly breeding fine Merino sheep. He was a long-term parliamentarian serving in the Houses of Assembly and Legislative Council from 1862 through to 1888 when he retired to his home 'Murray Park' at Magill.

Henry Murray Bathern, "Bulwaddy Bates"

Henry Murray Bathern, born at Appoinga on 24 June 1862, Henry was the eldest of Claus and Margaret (nee Murray) Bathern's nine children. He lived on the Barkly Tableland from 1883 going by the names Bates for some years before returning to his birth name later in life. His nickname was 'Bulwaddy' after the tough Bulwaddy tree. He died in Newcastle Waters in 1941 and is buried on Beetaloo Station, which he owned.
