The barge Crowie, Goolwa
The barge "Crowie" on the stocks at Goolwa, built by J.G. Arnold and was the largest ever put on the Murray. 151ft 7 ins long, 29ft beam, 7 ft 9 ins deep in hold.

"Decoy", Goolwa
"Decoy", River steamer built in Melbourne in 1876. Decoy (Paddle steamer). She was brought out from Scotland in sections and built in Melbourne. She was originally designed to burn coal but was modified to burn wood. In her time she worked the St Vincent Gulf, was a barge and passenger vessel. In 1925 "Decoy" towed the barge "Cowie" which carried a record 2493 bales of wool on the Murray.

River steamer "Kelvin", formerly the "Ariel" converted 1912 at Goolwa. "Kelvin " was built from the wreck of steamer "Ariel", replaced "Dispatch" as a passenger and mail steamer between Morgan and Murray Bridge from 1912.

In the mid ground town buildings can be seen on either side of the main street including the Pretoria Hotel (in the centre). W.H. Matthews was the licensee at this time. The Rotunda, Mannum
[General description] The Randell Rotunda at Mannum, attractively set amongst big trees at the water's edge. It was built as a memorial to 'Captain W. R. Randell, first steam navigator of the Rivers Murray, Murrumbidgee, and Darling. Born May 2, 1824; died March 4, 1911'

A house on the extreme left of the photograph has been built up from the street level to keep it safe from floods from the Murray River. Steamboat Boiler, Mannum
Boiler of steamer "Mary Ann", at Mannum. This paddle steamer was the first steam powered vessel on the Murray-Darling, was built by William Richard Randell and his brothers and was launched near Mannum in 1853. Steam was supplied by a box boiler which proved adequate for the task because of the thin plates from which it was made. The old boiler, dumped on the river bank was recovered and put on display in the main street. The "Mary Ann" was rsponsible for opening up trade on the inland rivers and contributed greatly to the economy of South Australia

Mannum
Mannum, a view taken from the Post Office. William Randell, son of an early pastoralist operated a steamboat on the River Murray from 1853. He built a wharf, goods shed and a cottage and eventually the township evolved. Later settlers brought shops, banks and businesses to Mannum. Mannum is the birthplace of the Australian Paddle Steamer
