Also includes part of Section B on the north side, from O'Halloran Hill, and Section D on the south, to Sellicks Beach. Land sections with occupiers' names are coloured.

This chart was compiled from Colonel Light's survey with soundings by S. Hamilton, drawn by F.H. Burslem of the Survey Department and engraved by W. Moffitt, Sydney. Shows coast, river with soundings, and Torrens Island. Includes natural features. Although dated 1839, map and detailed navigation notes on right hand edge date this version at 1840. Title of map at bottom right does not have its supporting kangaroos and emu figures as in map 120/2. Scale 2 inches to 1 mile. (On reverse side is printed the 1839 map without the text on left hand edge, another copy of map 120/2 in this series.) [Double sided map; previously C155 & C156].

Chart of Port Adelaide, South Australia covering part of LeFevre's Peninsula and Torrens Island with land cover shown pictorially. Includes soundings for the coastal waters and Torrens River. Accompanying text is entitled 'Directions' and provides navigational directions to those sailing the Gulf of St. Vincent. The references under Remarks demonstrates the hopes of the Colony to provide anchorages for visiting vessels along the Torrens River and to provide access further up the River to the city of Adelaide. Plan showing 'the warehouses and sheds and the progressive state of wharfs' at Port Adelaide erected by the South Australian Company. A rudimentary wooden platform is shown on the end of the McLaren Wharf with the position of the lifting crane, a well and connecting bridge to the Government Reserve. An indication of the extent of vegetation surrounding an inlet in the area has been carefully executed by the artist. Signed by the architects Prescott and Hancock at right bottom corner, and dated January 5th 1840 at bottom left. 'No. 3' written at top left corner. Scale 1 & half inches to 50 feet. Ink and watercolour on paper, ink notation.

Map of the River Murray from a point near the site of Monteith down to its entry into Lake Alexandrina, south of Wellington (called the Mouth of the Murray in the map's title) with land sections along the river, all numbered. Those marked 'S.A.C.' are the South Australian Company lands, 'J.M.' are John Morphett's, 'E.S.' are Edwards Stephens', and 'S.S.' for the Trustees of the late Samuel Stephens. The allotments in the townships of Wellington (surveyed in 1840 by John Morphett) and East Wellington are shown. The land west of the river is located in the Hundred of Brinkley. Large hand-coloured manuscript plan of 'The Town of Port Gawler, South Australia', created by surveyor P.L. Snell Chauncy. The plan depicts the intended layout of the town between the two branches of the Port Gawler Creek, including a largely grid-pattern street layout, two squares and a circus, designated land for public gardens and a market, and a cemetery on the edge of the town. Allotments for sale are numbered. A small inset shows the location of Port Gawler within the Adelaide region. A scale in feet and chains is included. Some staining is apparent around the edge of the plan.

Additional papers comprise his personal files on education, South Australian Gas Company (when he was chairman), his parliamentary career in the Legislative Council, papers relating to wheat yields and land leases, and history of foundation of the state, finance and banking, and miscellaneous papers about agricultural and Crown Land /nationalization of land. Correspondents include R.C. Baker, Robert Barr Smith, W.H. Bundey, G.W. Goyder, H.R. Hancock, John Lewis, Dr. S. Magarey, Solomon Moody, Sir Charles Todd, Samuel Tomkinson and S.J. Way.

Series of 102 black and white lantern slides numbered 40-145, illustrating the development of Adelaide, 1839-1914. Some slides are of maps, lithographs and sketches made by nineteenth century artists and lithographers. The series juxtaposes views of Adelaide buildings and streets and key landmarks at several time periods, to show the changes and developments in Adelaide to 1914. The streets in focus in this series include King William Street, North Terrace, Stephen's Place, Rundle Street, Hindley Street, Pulteney Street, Grenfell Street, Pirie Street, Gouger Street, Gawler Place and Hindmarsh Square. The following slides are not held: 1-39, 63, 67, 81, 128.
