People gathered around the Trackless Train at the Keystone Service Station on the corner of Dequetteville Terrace and Rundle Street, Kent Town. The 'train' and its crew had left California in 1924 for a worldwide Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer publicity campaign. It arrived in Brisbane on 3 April 1928 and Adelaide on 11 October 1928. The train comprised a replica transcontinental engine with tender towing a Pullman coach. Powered by two coupled 90 horsepower engines and fitted with hydraulic brakes. It was 53 feet long, weighed 11 tons and could travel at 40 M.P.H. In addition to promoting MGM the tour raised funds for local charities, in South Australia Minda Home was a beneficiary.
