The iron barque 'East Croft', 1312 tons, in an unidentified port. James Taylor Rimmer was Master of this ship from its launch in July, 1875 until he retired in 1895. It's official number was 63885 and was built by Harland & Wolff in Belfast, Northern Ireland for John Gambles, High Harrington, Workington, Cumberland, England. There were many voyages made to Australia (Melbourne). Believed to have continued to sail under the British flag until 1897 (D. Connack as Master and Trinder, Anderson & Co., as subsequent owners) when it was transferred to Norwegian ownership. [Additional information provided by I. Sold in 1902 to Norwegian owner Sigurd Haslum, without change of name. It was transferred to Italian ownership in 1910 where it was broken up]. According to a researcher, the barque was named after the house of owner John Gambles at High Harrington.
