An article appeared in The Register (Adelaide, SA : 1901 - 1929), Sat 6 Jul 1912, Page 15, titled 'No Fire Appliances'.

The hotel was located at the corner of Alfred and Wills Streets. The Fitz-Walter & Co Merchants (left building) and L.C. Enright Chemists (right building) can both be placed in Charleville at the time of the hotel fire.

Firefighters are aiming hoses at the building while smoke billows across the sky. A large crowd of onlookers fills the street. A range of shop fronts can be seen including the Balfours Cafe, J.M. Fire Station and appliance at Mount Barker. A researcher has added that the vehicle is an International, which was built by Harold Ghericke of Mount Barker around 1950. After decommissioning it was purchased and restored by David Chapman and is now [2013] on permanent loan to the Adelaide Hills Motor Restorers Club based at Mount Barker.
