[General description] This is one of the English built Maudslay buses which were imported for use in Adelaide at this time. The route of this bus, to (and from) Glenelg via Anzac Highway, is painted on its side. Government House can be seen in the background. [On back of photograph] 'Photographed June 14, 1926. / Maudslay bus: one of the largest in use in 1926. Taken in King William Rd. opposite City Baths where the buses on the Glenelg route line up during slack periods.'

Government Printing Office, Adelaide. Corner of North Terrace and King William Road, Looking north west from the Adelaide Club, North Terrace. The entrance to Government House can be seen on the right of the photograph. The City Baths can be seen further down King William Road on the western side as the road dips down towards the River Torrens. The curved roofs of the Adelaide Railway Station can be seen on the left of the photograph. There is a large turning circle in the middle of the intersection where horse drawn vehicles make regular turns. The photograph was presented by Mrs H Coultas. On the reverse of this photograph is attached a duplicate copy of B 941 which depicts the Adelaide Bridge around the 1880's (also presented by Mrs H Coultas).

The road is raised on the right for access to the entrance and North Terrace. The portico in the centre is in front of the Grand Hall and waiting room. Items 1-6 appear to have been taken about 1935, with the ground on the opposite corner cleared ready for the construction of the new Parliament House; the SA Government Printer and the City Baths buildings are visible in the background of prints 1-5; the ES&A Building (right) and old AMP Building can be seen in print 6; while print 7 is year or two later with the foundations for the new Parliament House laid. Many of them seem to have been produced for the tourist market. Inside the front cover is an inscription 'To dear May / wishing you a Happy Birthday / 4th June 1941 Bob'. In the bottom left hand corner is 'SX 7038 / Sgt. R. P. McGhee'. [May was his his wife]. Album was lent for copying by the State Library of South Australia.
