Stirling West carnival procession

Stirling West carnival procession

Procession from Crafers through the main street of Stirling West to Stirling East that preceeded the Stirling West carnival to raise funds for the Red Cross Prisoners of War Fund. The Mail of 26 January 1918 reported, "The procession was headed by the Mount Lofty Brass Band, and among the bodies marching were the children of the Crafers, Upper Sturt, and Scott's Creek Public Schools....At Stirling East the pageant was augmented by a procession which came from Aldgate. This section included the Mitcham Camp Band, the children of the Aldgate, Heathfield, Bridgewater, and Stirling East Public Schools". The banner in this group belongs to the 'Pride of the Hills Lodge' of the United Ancient Order of Druids and bears the names of brothers who had enlisted.
