Prince of Wales Hotel, Wallaroo was also known as the Prince Edward Hotel. At the time of the photograph the proprietor was E Tyre and he held this position from 1882-1893. Mrs Isabella Tyre was proprietor from 1894-1920. Five small boys can be seen outside the hotel.

The ship in the centre-right is the four masted iron barque 'Samaritan'. On the left the three masted ship is the 'Cambuskenneth' and the steamer behind it is the SS 'Investigator'.

View of Wallaroo Smelting Works in approximately 1917. The smelting works was an extensive complex of buildings with numerous chimneys. The smelter began operation in 1861 and was closed in 1923. The mine struggled in the years after World War 1 due to the downturn in the price of copper, closing for long periods and losing large amounts of money between 1919 and 1922. The mine shut down in 1923.
