This newspaper cutting is mounted on a board together with a copy of the image B 3187. On the back is a newspaper clipping from the 'Register' November 26th, 1935 bearing the title 'A link with the past - Erection of a monolith'. From this article the inscription has been transcribed as 'This stone marks the site of "The Tabernacle", the first Congregational church in the southern district, founded in 1846 by the Rev. R. W. Newland, the pioneer pastor of the South'.
