Two albums containing views of South Australia, a number of the photographs were taken by Captain Sweet. Volume 1 : photographs numbered 8, 20-21, 28, 35, 44-47, 74, 85-88 not in the album. Volume 2 : photographs numbered 1, 22-27, 30, 34-40, 45-50, 57-65, 72 onwards not in the album. Volume 2 also contains images of Tasmania. Collection of several hundred 3" x 4" glass plates negatives taken around Adelaide by Theo Bachmann ca.1915-1950. Originally housed in labelled sleeves with an index, they feature the Bachmann and Plunket families, as well as more general scenes. The original envelope number is shown in square brackets after the description of each image, and can be cross-referenced to the index (see B 71826/656). No negative in envelope 415; no negative in envelope 427 (labelled Father & Mother 7/1/17 ' good'); no negative in envelope 442 M. Howard - O'Hare group - returned to E Howard'; nos. 432. Jack & Bob 1912 [no.94] not copied; no negative for photo 443. Train in King William Street [no.191]. Photos 476-481 are acetate negatives, so possibly of a later date.

Album of views in and around Adelaide, including North Adelaide, Morialta, Waterfall Gully, Norton Summit. Photographs of several historic houses, Montefiore, Fairfield, Springbrook and Collingrove, cattle and prize winning sheep are included. Some photographs are attributable to photographers, Samuel White Sweet, Townsend Duryea and H. Davis. Some of the photographs are duplicated elsewhere in the Pictorial Collection.

Hawkes Family photograph album

Album of the Hawkes Family, possibly containing photographs of Hawkes, Stebbing and Whittington families, and English relatives and siblings of Henry Hawkes and Francis William Hawkes, who married Mary Jane Whittington. The donor, Clifford Henry Hawkes, born 1898, indicated that the album belonged to his grandfather, Henry Hawkes. The album includes a one page family tree of Clifford Hawkes, compiled by the State Library, photographs of the original album (which has not been retained), several in memoriam cards (photos 56-59), and two Children's League certificates, belonging to Clifford Hawkes and Harold Hawkes. Most photographs are un-captioned, and a small selection have been digitised. The album is an interesting source of examples of carte-de visite and cabinet print portrait photography, along with one tintype photograph, by studios in Adelaide in the nineteenth century. Photographer was probably Captain Samuel Sweet and the location was probably in Point McLeay Region. A later caption provides the name 'Narahminyerie'. She was the first Aboriginal woman convert to Christianity.

A miscellaneous collection of mounted photographs relating to exploration of South Australia and the Northern Territory, including several unidentified outback stations, a group portrait of Aboriginal people of Port Lincoln ca. 1900, and maritime topics. A selection have been digitised. Photographs 3, 5-7 are albumen prints of etchings by Frederick Nixon, 1845 duplicating copies held elsewhere in the Pictorial Collection. A photograph of the 'Lusitania, Circular Quay, Sydney, NSW', Excelsior Photo Company' and an interesting series of nineteenth century photos of Tarputree Hindu temples, India with views of Gopuram, Mundapum with lion figures, and a stone car or chariot drawn by horses, are included.
