The match is probably the 1911-1912 Adelaide Test match between England and Australia. Front row l to r - C. Hill, J.N. Crawford (the former English cricketer who was with South Australia at the time), F.T. Hack (the South Australian cricketer), C. Kelleway, T. Pawley (M.C.C. / English manager). Second row from front l. to r. - unknown, J. Vine (English 12th man), V.S. Ransford, A. Cotter, H. Carter. Third row from front l. to right, starting from the player in the boater behind Ransford - W. Bardsley, C.G. Macartney (Australian 12th man), unknown, W.J. Whitty (in civvies. He didn't play in this match). The missing Australians (two of whom would be batting) are therefore H.V. Hordern, W.W. Armstrong, V.T. Trumper, R.B. Minnett and T.J. Matthews.

A researcher has identified the following family members: third daughter Vera Eleanor (1893-1975) is sitting at the extreme left holding an infant; standing from the right of the decorated pole are second daughter Esther May, 1891-1984; her uncle George Moulds; an unidentified woman; eldest daughter Beatrice Alice, later Rother, 1889-1980, (in white); granddaughter Betsy Spencer. later Badenoch, 1896-1979; daughter-in-law Eleanor Louisa, nee Rowland, 1865-1949, (dark dress); and eldest son William Robert, 1864-1955, (prominent white collar).
