Jane Annette Rainsford was born at Adelaide on 6 November 1855, the seventh of Joseph and Jane Rainsford's 10 children. Jane married Alfred Searcy on 10 February 1876. They had seven children, Stella (1877), Walter (1880), Clara (1882), Hilda (1884), Frederick (1886 - 1887), Reginald (1889) and Eric (1890). Hilda, Frederick and Reginald were born in Palmerston in the Northern Territory.
