Photographs of river shipping and places
Photographs from Harry Godson's collection, some which had been assigned his catalogue numbers but were not included in earlier digitised series 1-4. A few have been donated since his death, to be added to his collection. Included are transparencies of aerial views of 1974 flood along River Murray, photographer unknown (Godson ref: 'Index 59'). Images 366-400 are the first in sequence, followed by images 322-352.

Murray River in flood in South Australia
Floodwaters from the Murray River in a South Australian township, believed to be at Mannum during the 1917 flood [see PRG 1258/2/992 & 982], with a view of waters which have inundated houses, shops, and sheds. The men are believed to be loading barges at Walkers Flour Mill, which is out of frame on the right.

P.S. The Duke of Edinburgh at Goolwa
Murray River steamer 'The Duke of Edinburgh' at Goolwa with Hindmarsh Island visible in the distance. [Advice from A. Presgrave: This photo, B17414 and PRG 1258/1/840 are duplicate images. The date is probably ca.1868 as the Goolwa wharf is in the second stage of its development which included some extension to the jetty head in 1866.] The steamer in the photograph was identified by Captain John Grundy.

Goolwa Hotel and Thomas Goode's Store. [Duplicated at PRG 1258/2/425.] A young girl can be seen standing outside the bakery looking down the road towards the Goolwa Hotel. A horse drawn buggy stands outside the bakery/refreshment rooms.

Regatta Day at Milang
Milang jetty and foreshore on a regatta day. The Milang Jetty was built in 1856 and the hand crane was placed here in 1872. It is believed to be the oldest crane of this type in South Australia. This photograph shows the jetty and nearby beaches swarming with people. Various types of boats are tied up at the jetty. The beach is lined with motor cars, buggies, tents and people enjoying the regatta. See PRG 1258/2/1048
