The timber scaffolding is the falsework which supports the trusses while they are being erected. It is removed once the truss is complete and can support its own weight. Piers support the trusses and carry to loads to the foundations. The word is pylons is not usually applied to bridges.

The Adelaide to the Victorian border line is 60 miles from Adelaide and the bridge had 5 spans of 121 feet each, and 23 spans of 60 feet each. The copy in Sweet Collection folder 4 has Sweet signature, (Sweet Adelaide 429). The bridge was completed in 1879 and by 1886 it carried the railway line as well. The increasing weight of rolling stock meant that a new rail bridge was built in 1925
