Compound surface condensing steam engine, 35hp, 11.5 knots, 1 foilr 120 pounds per square inch all by Ross and Duncan, Glasgow. Owners: John Fenwick, registered Sydney; Oct. 1900 A Fenwick and others; Aug. 1908 Millar's Karri and Jarrah Co. Ltd. of West Australia; c.1913 Ritch and Smith, registered Port Adelaide. Hulk 'Fortuna' ex 'Macquarie'

Hulk 'Fortuna' ex 'Macquarie' in dock at Sydney [iron ship 1965 gross tons, 1857 net tons. ON70749, 269.8 x 40.1 x 23.7. Built 1875 (6) R&H Green, Blackwall London. Owners: R&H Green. Registered London, 1887 Devitt and Moore; 1903 renamed 'Fortuna' on sale to Norwegian owners and became a coal hulk in Sydney before WW1. The 'Melbourne' ran regularly to Melbourne until 1887 with an average voyage time of 82 days. She was sold in 1897 to Devitt and Moore who renamed the ship 'Macquarie' in 1888 and operated her to Sydney. When Devitt and Moore became associated with Lord Brassey's cadet scheme the 'Macquarie' was employed in training cadets while en route UK-Australia-UK. Very full notes in 'Blackwall Frigates'. Noted in 'Colonial Clippers']

Owners: Southampton, Isle of Wight and South of England Royal Mail Steam Packet Co., registered Southampton. March 1926 SA Harbors Board, who originally called her 'No. 394'. Compound steam engine, 35nhp. Ross and Duncan Glasgow. Owners James Wallace registered Sydney. Oct 1906 Govt. of South Australia. April 1914 S.A. Harbors Board. Withdrawn from service c.1935 and eventually broken up. Unconfirmed reports claim she was used as a coal hulk to supply the Board's other steamers for some years. Leith and Gauldie and Gillespie, Glasgow. Owners: The Adelaide Steam Tug Co. Ltd., registered Port Adelaide; 1958 Ritch and Smith Ltd.; 1967 Towage Holdings Pty. Ltd. Sold 1971 having been laid up since 1969. Late 1973 sold by order of the court on account of accumulated debts. New owner commenced making alterations and it is believed she was to be converted into a tuna fishing boat but was found to be unsuitable and she was demolished in Port Adelaide mid 1975. Triple expans. recip. steam engine, 206 nhp by shipbuilder. Owners: Huddart, Parker and Co. Ltd. registered Melbourne. Foundered about 50 miles west of Kingston SA on a voyage to eastern states, after passing Kangaroo Island, with the aux. schooner 'Astoria' in tow on Monday July 9, 1917. Fourteen lost - 2 survivors. Owners: James W Adamson, registered London, later Adamson and Ronaldson, then Thomson, Dickie and Co. registered Glasgow. Missing. Left Newcastle NSW with coal Jan. 26, 1895 bound for Panama. Not seen again. (I find no reference to this vessel being owned by Windram and Son, under which it is listed in the collection - RHP).
