View of the Darwin wharf built over the sunken ship M.V. 'Neptuna'. A sign next to the jetty reads 'Submarine pipelines. Do not drag anchor'. The 'Neptuna' was anchored at Stokes Hill Wharf, Darwin Harbour when the Japanese attacked on 19 February 1942. The ship, which was carrying explosives, was hit by the Japanese bombing raid and exploded, turning on its side. Forty five men on board the ship were killed. Part of the wreckage remains in Darwin Harbour. Original photograph: black and white print, 6.4 x 9 cm.
