Summary

The iron barque 'Evesham Abbey', 1692 tons, anchored in an unidentified port [iron ship, later 3 mast barque, 1692 tons. ON74521, 245.9 x 40.3 x 23.5. Built 1876 (3) T Royden and Son, Liverpool. Owners J Poole and Co. registered Liverpool. c.1900 sold to German owners and re-rigged as a barque and renamed Antilope, c.1905 became the Norwegian Argo and later owned in Sweden under the same name].

From the volume titled 'British Owned Iron and Steel Barques (II)'.

This image is from the A.D. Edwardes Collection of about 8,000 photographs, mostly of sailing ships from around the world, taken between about 1865 and 1920. Mounted in 91 albums, the photographs are arranged by country of ownership, with some special volumes such as 'Shipping at Port Adelaide' and 'South Australian outports'. Additional information, giving the history of the ships where known, has been provided by maritime historian, Ron Parsons.
