The iron barque 'Battle Abbey', 1643 tons, anchored in an unidentified port. [iron 3 masted ship, c. 1895/6 was 3 masted barque rig 1643 tons when re-rigged became 1606 tons. ON70941 242.1 x 40.3 x 22.8. Built 1875 (4) T. Royden and Son. Liverpool. Owners Jas. Poole and Co. registered Liverpool as a barque JJ Moore and Co. Abandoned on fire Dec. 30 1913 when bound from Newcastle NSW to Vancouver with coal.]

From the volume titled 'British Owned Iron and Steel Barques (II)'.

This image is from the A.D. Edwardes Collection of about 8,000 photographs, mostly of sailing ships from around the world, taken between about 1865 and 1920. Mounted in 91 albums, the photographs are arranged by country of ownership, with some special volumes such as 'Shipping at Port Adelaide' and 'South Australian outports'. Additional information, giving the history of the ships where known, has been provided by maritime historian, Ron Parsons.
