Recruiting window

Recruiting window

A 'recruiting window' for the A.I.F. in John Martin's Rundle Street store featuring a large military fist holding a smoking red swastika branding iron, about to brand a group of people. It caused a great deal of interest at the time and a number of people contacted the watchman thinking the window was on fire owing to the artificial smoke created. [From scrapbook 24].

Guinea Airways Ltd. : Aircraft

Avro Anson A4-32 major service by GAL. A researcher has provided the following information: 'Regarding this photo stated as being Avro Anson A4-32. It cannot be A4-32 as this machine crashed at Riverstone NSW on 28 April 1939. The aircraft in the photo has the yellow training bands applied that only appear after the declaration of World War Two & into the 1940 period when Ansons were retired from operations to training purposes, hence the yellow bands & large 32 code. I would suggest that this is actually N1332 & I base this on my 40+ years of study of this type of aircraft.'
