Derwent Hunter, a three-masted barque used for whaling out of Hobart. It was built in 1810, and was retired in 1907 in Hobart. It was formerly known as North America, where it was built. This photograph was given to Vernon Smith by Harry O'May in 1948 for the Nautical Museum.

Schooner Lemael stranded ashore at Semaphore. It was waiting for anchorage at Largs Bay to load salt for Tasmania, and dragged its anchors during the night. The crew was in no danger.

Kathleen Taylor

Kathleen Taylor

Kathleen Taylor, youngest in family of W.H. and M.J. Taylor, born 24 August 1890 at Silverton N.S.W, and died November 1965. She trained as a nurse at the Wakefield Street Hospital and served in WWI. She married L.F. Burgess in 1920 and had two sons Tom (b. 31 July 1921), and John (b. 3 June 1924).
