The letters to his wife include his attempts to organise her trip out to South Australia, and expressions of disappointment at rumours she had another admirer; the final one (to a sister) documents her arrival and unhappiness in living with him at Wallaroo. Also included are letters from his wife Sarah and his sisters Mary Kershaw and E.A.G. Hilditch who were living at Oldham in England.
