Summary

The "Torrens" ship was launched in 1875, was a passenger ship named after Colonel Robert Torrens an exponent of 19th century colonial trade. The "Torrens" was aimed at the upper end of the market with accommodation for 1st and 2nd class passengers only. This photograph shows the damage as a result of a collision with an iceberg in 1899 south west of the Crozet Islands in the southern Indian Ocean.
