Norman Malcolm after his promotion to Captain in 1916 whilst serving in the Middle East. He was part of the 9th Light Horse regiment at Gallipoli and in Egypt from 1915-1917. The inscription 'To dear Ethel with love from Norman' is to his sister.

Doris Brinsley was born 18 September 1892, daughter of George Arthur Brinsley and Anna Rosina nee Wilcox. She enlisted 18 June 1917 at Adelaide and embarked for overseas 9 November 1917. She left the service 18 February 1920.
