Woods 2240 served in 10th Battalion AIF, awarded a Military Medal in WWI, and his brother William killed in action at Gallipoli. Percy Row, enlisted in AIF and died of illness in training 27 May 1916 (only known photograph of him). Walter Stanley servied in 48th Battalion AIF, and killed in action 28 June 1918 [information provided by a researcher].

This photograph was taken from Peake Terrace, towards McCoy Street and shows th hotel on the right oppoisite the hall. The streets are decorated for Education Week. An article in the 'The Murray Pioneer and Australian River Record' on 6th September 1929, states that 'McCoy Street, the main street of Waikerie has been beflagged for Education Week - over 4000 flags and about 400 electric light globes being used in the decorations."

[General description] A small crowd stands around a brass band at the opening of this substantial stone memorial hall, which cost approximately 3,000 pounds to build, the contractor being Mr. T Gilbert of Henley Beach.
