Cottage, Blanchetown

John Maude Woolley, Custom Officer at Blanchetown, standing at the gate to his cottage. Mr JM WSoollley was a customs officer at Blanchetown. The cottage was demolished well before 1940. In 1844 Mr Woolley was declared insolvent after guaranteeing another man's debts to the tune of a thousand pounds. He returned to England but reappeared in Sydney in 1848 where he bought horses, cattle and sheep and took them overland to South Australia. He joined Customs as Sheep Inspector in 1861 and was appointed Sub-Collector at the port of Blanchetown when it opened.

The locos were built by J. & H. McLaren, of Leeds, and were rated at 10 nominal horse power, had 3 speeds and were mounted on springs. They were part of a batch of 5 similar model 65TC engines, reportedly a cancelled order from the British War Dept., being exported to Australia.
