[General description] This newly completed three storey building has a Venetian Gothic facade in carved sandstone. It was built for physical education and included a swimming pool. It is registered with the National Trust. The Institute was founded to further the physical and intellectual education of working class young men, with a strong emphasis on Christian values. Victor York Richardson

A caricature by Lionel Coventry of Victor York Richardson, sportsman and radio commentator. Victor York Richardson scored 27 centuries in first-class cricket, represented Australia at baseball, South Australia at golf and tennis, and excelled at lacrosse, basketball, and swimming. He captained South Australia and Australia at cricket, a South Australian captain of football, and an outstanding gymnast, athlete, and hockey player. He later became a journalist and a radio commentator.
