Signor Francesco Setaro
PORTRAIT: Francesco Setaro, a well known Italian violinist and composer resident in Adelaide in the 1890s. He was conductor and founder of the well-known Setaro's String Band. He was born in Viggianno, Italy in 1868, and came to Australia at the age of 20 as a member of a special band engaged to play at the opening of the Jubilee Exhibition and stayed on. He was the author of several popular compositions including 'Farmyard', 'The Canary Waltz' and 'The Cats' Polka'. Obituary, The Advertiser, 18 January 1926, p13.
